Our Mission

Find stillness here.

We are a Theravada Buddhist temple with an emphasis on the practices of mindfulness and meditation, and a nonprofit tax-exempt religious organization under IRC Section 501(c)(3).

Our Chief Monk, Venerable Bhante Huruluwewe Chandrawansa, understanding the pain and turmoil in our minds — affecting our families and relationships and exacerbated by the unrest, war, poverty, greed, anger and hatred that grip the world — helps us achieve serenity and clarity with the power of the Dhamma, the Buddha's timeless teachings.

The Noble Eightfold Path

Central to the teachings of the Buddha is the Noble Eightfold Path, his prescription for the way to end suffering and to attain Nibbana. The seventh and eighth parts — Right Mindfulness and Right Meditation — are particularly crucial for calming, uplifting and sharpening our minds in today's stressful world.

"There is no wisdom for him who lacks meditation. There is no meditation for him who lacks wisdom. But for him who has both, meditation and wisdom, he is near to Nibbana." — Dhammapada, verse 372

With the experience of numerous meditation and mindfulness retreats and training programs, Bhante shares techniques to bring more peace into our lives here and now, as well as to progress on the path to Nibbana. Along with his explanations of Dhamma teachings from the Suttas and Abhidhamma, he guides us in how to understand and take care of our minds. This is of utmost importance, as our thoughts are where every word and action begin.

The power of our minds

It is our responsibility as civilized citizens, sharing this planet with one another, to take care of our thoughts. Our minds can be great sources of happiness or pathways of destruction and pain.

A path to healing

Through following the path of the Dhamma, we can restore health to our lives, our society, and our earth — bringing balance, stability, and wellness into our hearts, homes, workplaces, and communities.

Join us in practice

We invite you to follow the path by participating in any of our activities:

  • Dhamma talks, discussions and programs at our temple or on Zoom
  • Meditation groups, retreats, and special events
  • Meal offerings to the Sangha (monks)
  • Buddhist celebrations and ceremonies
  • Special blessings services such as memorial ceremonies

Through the establishment of a dedicated Buddhist temple and meditation center on the outskirts of Philadelphia, our wish is to spread the message of the Dhamma — especially the teachings of meditation and mindfulness — to this highly populated area and beyond.

"Be a light unto yourself."

We hope to plant the seeds that will grow and flourish for generations to come.
